Why "basic cap. ?
It all started when I decided to sell caps on my online store. At the time, I was looking for a simple, catchy name, and that's how I came up with "basic cap. The name matched what I wanted to offer: simply caps. The dot "." in "basic cap." was there to emphasize the finality aspect, as also indicated by the brand's first slogan "no more. (no more, in French). My aim was to propose a simple, unadorned concept, and to develop a sober, minimalist identity around "basic cap.
An end, a beginning
After a while selling online, I realized that I wanted to make my creations known and spread my vision by creating my own clothing brand. So I decided to really devote myself to the new "basic cap.", and closed up store.
Inspiration
Skateboard culture
Urban fashion has always been a great source of inspiration for me, especially the aesthetics of skateboard brands. Skateboard culture is often perceived as underground and rebellious, advocating freedom and creativity. The original graphics, bright colors and identity motifs inspired by this universe influence current fashion. Urban culture and street art are at the heart of basic cap's inspiration.
Childlike spirit
Childlike spirit evokes a particular carefree spirit and a return to childhood, characterized by an overflowing imagination often typical of children. With basic cap, I aim to appeal to all those who wish to retain their childlike spirit, and offer clothes that reflect this joyful, playful and funny state of mind.
Montreal and co
A Franco-Quebec story
Before being a brand, it's a personal story. Originally from France, I chose to settle in Canada, in Montreal, Quebec, for a new life, and found an inspiring home here.
Conscious and ethical
The textile industry is one of the most polluting for our planet. That's why I set up pre-orders to minimize waste and redistribute samples and surplus stock free of charge to associations and thrift stores. I'm constantly looking for ways to reduce my impact on the environment and support ethical, local businesses. My long-term goal is to create a brand made exclusively in Quebec. Today, to meet my needs, the choice fell on China, with a reputable and transparent factory that respects social commitments and has ISO 19001 and BSI standards.
Now
Each garment I create is a unique piece, imbued with my passion, which I'd like to share with you. It's my way of opening up to the world and expressing myself. I'm delighted to introduce you to my world and invite you to discover it through my online boutique.
Thank you, Raphaël.
